WordPress 2 for iPhone released

31 10 2009

Just installed the new v2 of the iPhone WordPress app. Very nice. Quite a bit faster than the old version. Interface seems a bit cleaner too. Landscape support for typing posts ( but only the body not the headers and the main list view doesn’t rotate either which is a bit annoying). But overall not too bad. Nice feature is the ability to attach pictures to your posts and to view the comments of the post you’re editing. You also get a nice preview of the post (and if your theme is standard it will even show using that). Very nice app. Well done.

Push email for GMail accounts on WM

24 09 2008

I came across this useful little utility written by a guy called Graham Murray the other day that gives me push email (like Exchange users get) from my GMail account. Basically it uses the IMAP IDLE functionality that Google implemented to receive notifications from the server that there is a new message and this triggers the client to do a download.  What this means is you don’t have to continually check your email account or leave it polling all the time.  Downside is that this is a very early piece of code and at this stage doesn’t remember your settings so if you reset your device (or kill the app) you have to re-enter all your details again.  On the plus side, it works quite happily with Google Apps accounts.  Just enter your username as your full domain, rather than @gmail.com and your golden.

Nice work, Graham!  Thanks!

OMG! How much of a rip off is that Vodafone iPhone pricing?

11 07 2008

i-mate releases JAM Pocket PC Phone Limited Edition

2 08 2005

Found this on Geekzone. This is great news! The one thing that really let the orignal JAM down was the lack of memory. At only 64MB it just didn’t quite cut it once you load all those necessary utils :-) The new version comes with 128MB and you get a free 500MB SD card to go with it. What more do you need?

(sarcasm) But wait there’s still more! It’s charcoal! Now that makes all the difference (/sarcasm)

Seriously, it’s a good improvement to the original and comes bundled with a bunch of extra software (anti-virus and Skype).

HTC Apache??

31 07 2005

PocketPCThoughts has an article that allegedly shows the HTC Apache. This is apparently the CDMA version of the new HTC Wizard which is itself the replacement for the HTC Magician (iMate JAM). Phew!

All I can say is that I want one! A JAM sized Pocket PC Phone Edition device with EV-DO support, WiFi and Bluetooth…. outstanding. It doesn’t even look TOO ugly….

How to Be Creative in Business

7 06 2005

Interesting article via the Windows Mobile site on how you can use your WM device to capture random ideas and create new connections between them to come up with innovative solutions. I like the concept behind this and I use this as often as I can (the main reason being, as the article points out, “memory is fragile”, especially mine). Worth a read (it’s not very long).

: Mobile Application Development eHow-tos and Tutorials

2 06 2005

My friend Craig pointed me to these "eHow-tos". They are Windows Media files that help get you started with developing with Windows Mobile 5.0. They start out fairly basic and progress to some reasonbly tricky stuff (building WEb services for Windows CE 5 for example).

A good resource if you're new to WM5 development.

Cellphone display used to track down lost hiker

26 05 2005

For all of you who use your mobile as a torch… – A hiker who got lost in Shiloh Park in Northern California, called the sheriff for help. A helicopter was tracking her down after it got dark when they asked her to point the wireless phone display toward the sky. The crew found her using night vision goggles to spot the phone’s backlight.

OK, so not quite so cool after all :-(

Appears the CDMA version of the RAZR comes without Bluetooth. What's with that!
